firm, company, corporation, enterprise, group等的区别
firm是任何的一个企业，可以是独资、合资或是股份有限公司。firm和company相比之下概念更广泛，一般来说，对一般企业的总称用firms多于companies。多指商行或两个（或两个以上）的人共同经营的商业机构，合伙商店，也指公司。firm可大可小，大至航空公司小至小商店。如：a machinery import firm机器设备进出口公司。firm多用于法律的律师行一类的。
firm: a company, especially one that provides services rather than

company是商界的任何一个从事商业的企业，可以是独资、合资或是股份有限公司。一般用company是针对的是某一个特定的公司。例如说“我们公司”这句话英文就该说“Our company”而不说“Our firm”，更不说“Our enterprise”。 用得最广，常指生产或出售产品的商行（公司）、经营服务性项目的公司或从事公益事业的公司，如交通运输、飞机制造、信托、保险、电话、电信、自来水、煤气、电力等公司，常略做co.。
company:

缩写 co.,co,Co.合伙人：没有专门用商行命名的一个合股人或多个合股人：

corporation是合伙的公司、企业，股东较少的。指（股份）有限公司，常指一个人或更多人所拥有的商行（公司），以股份投资形式合股开办，也独资开办，略做corp。corporation是大的集团公司。
corporation :

entity having its own rights, privileges, and liabilities distinct from those
of its members.
法人：在法律上承认的一个独立的法律实体，拥有不同于其它成员的自己的权利、特权和义务

corporation: a large company that employs a lot of people,especially one that

enterprise是商业企业，一般来说enterprise这个单词很少用来称呼企业，虽然有商业企业的意思，enterprise多用与描写公司的经济活动。多指工商企事业单位、金融公司之类。

group作公司时强调集团和集体的意思是一个整体，重在人这个团队，多指集团公司或者总公司。
其它关于公司词汇的说法
－、以偏概全的问题
——“公司”并非“不是company，就是corporation”
《企业名称的 target="_blank" >翻译
consortium， establishment， venture， conglomerate， multinational，transnational等。就是在专有公司名称中，“公司”也决非只有company与corporation之说，lines，agency等也是名正言顺的“公司”，有时甚至是前老所不能替代的“公司”。具体说。
1．line（s）：（轮船、航空、航运等）公司。例如：
Atlantic Container Line 大西洋集装箱海运公司。
Hawaiian Air Lines，夏威夷航空公司
2．agency：公司，代理行。例如:
The Austin Advertising Agency 奥斯汀广告公司
China Ocean Shipping Agency 中国外轮代理公司
3．store（s) 百货公司。例如：
Great Universal Store 大世界百货公司（英）
Tesco Stores （Holdings）坦斯科百货公司（英〕
4． associates了（联合）公司。例如：

此外，exchange，center等词在特定的上下文中也可转义表示“公司”。例如：

值得一提的是，不仅“公司”的表达法多种多样，就是一些特定的公司往往也不止一种说法，例如，“联合公司”除了associates之说，另外还有以下各灵活表达法。

二、轻言习惯的问题
－－“保险公司”并非“都叫｀insurance company'
《实用翻译教程》一书中有这样几句话：“其次，特定的企业也会有自己用词的习惯，久而久之便成了行规，最典型的是｀保险公司'，无论哪个国家，也无论规模大小，都叫“insurance company'”，（刘季春，1996：204）《教程》作者是在讲述company与corporation的用法区别时说这段话的，其言外之意是说，“保险公司”的｀｀公司”只能用company而不能使用corporation，因为习惯使然，但事实并非如此，笔者在《英汉对外贸易 href="/online/" target="_blank" >词典》第464和465两页上就见到了数家Insurance Corporation。它们是： 1． Export Credit Insl1rance Corporation出口倩贷保险公司（加〕了． Fxnnrt FIn3nc。五ndIn士1］r古ncp CnTnor方。 出口金融和保随公司（逸） 3. 所以我以为corporation还是包括了company的集体的含义的，但是前者更强调有法人资格的一个团体。

当然OKI同志的转帖也很有用，比如分公司，总公司的区分在商业里应该也是很重要的，翻译应该都知道怎么区分的，i think
我感觉在英语的使用中最难的一个方面是如何找到一个最恰当的单词来表达头脑中的想法,这个时候可能会有若干个单词出现在脑子里,这些单词字典里的中文释义相近,孤立的看,使用任何一个都没错,但显然的是,其中部分单词是不适用于特定的语境中的.这是个很常见的问题.
同样,孤立得解释某个词语的意义并给予定性,实用价值也有限
我提这个说法显然是从使用专业英语的角度出发，一般有法人资格的用CORPERATION，没有法人资格的不可以用CORPERATION，一般用COMAPNY，但并未排斥公司的其他表述词汇。显然OKI先生是理解错了。
其实公司还有很多说法，比如house，business，concern， combine， Partnership，
complex，consortium， establishment，venture，conglomerate，multinational，transnational, assembles，line，agency，store，associates，system，service，视公司的类型不同翻译的不同
