Nowadays, a growing number of electives are offered in all

Recreational activities

Gone are the days when students came home from school,

did their homework, previewed lessons for the next day and then

went to bed at 9 o’clock. Today, there is a great variety of

recreation al activities out there waiting for you, from seeing a

movie with your girlfriend and following it up with a romantic

dinner to just hanging around with your friends, chatting and

laughing. And it’s all up to you what you choose.

Recreational activities can certainly do us good. Facing so

much pressure, we students definitely need chances to relax.

Besides, some recreational activities, say a concert, can broaden

our horizons as well as entertain us. But as the old saying goes,

every coin has two sides. Recreational activities can also do us

harm. Far too addicted to online games, many students fail in

their exams. And some of them are even expelled from school.

Furthermore, inappropriate activities can also affect our mental

health. Failing to win a battle in the virtual world, a 14-year-old

boy ended up committing suicide, which is really horrible.

As a college student, I think we should choose our

recreational activities carefully. This means we should first of all

know what is good for us and what is not. We should also have

self control in order to avoid getting addicted to an activity, no

matter how much we enjoy it. If we do so, I believe our

recreational activities will bring us benefits and make our life

more colorful.

Nowadays, an increasing number of museums are open to

Due Attention Should Be Given to Spelling

What is hot for 2010 in our colleges? It is the spelling

mistakes. Countless students lack due attention to spelling.

Taking a look around, we can find exampl es too numerous to list,

the one may be “challenge”. Freshman and sophomore almost

write this word as “chanllege”. How careless they are!

Why such a phenomenon sweeps every university? Some

experts attribute it to students’ inattention, because students al

ways pay no attention to spelling. However, other experts argue,

the teachers should be blamed for this situation. In my opinion,

it is far beyond any reasonable doubt that both of them should

exert themselves to change the spelling mistakes.

Confronting with this situation, I maintain that the spreading

of the spelling mistakes has extremely negative effects on the

education. For one thing, the special age that none of students

can spell correctly will come soon. For another, while

communicating with foreigners, we will be laughed at the

spelling mistakes made by ourselves. As a result, due attention

should be given to spelling immediately.

What are the causes of this problem?On the one hand, in

order to

earn more economic gains(经济收益), a considerable number

多)manufactures usually wraptheir products with

unnecessary but appealing(吸引人的)materialsaiming at

attracting customer’s attention , arousing their curiosity and

then stimulating their purchasing desire (吸引顾客的注意力并引发

notion has also encouraged the trend of excessive packaging.

neglected (不容忽视). For one thing，it is a waste of precious and

limited natural resources，which will thus pose

underlying(潜在的) threat to our offspring generation(子孙后代). For another, customers are often deceived by

artificialexternal packing rather than being provided with high-quality goods .

To change this situation, I think we should take the following

measures. First, laws must be made and implemented to impose

restriction on (实行限制)excessive packaging. Second, a public

education campaign should be launched to arouse

customers' consciousness (意识)that packaging doesn't equal to

quality, and also let them know the bad impact of it. Only in this

way can we put an end to this trend (结束这种趋势).
