arch 的由来：
古人用手（臂arm）劳作和制造工具。而人类的早期武器是弓(arc)和箭
(arrow)，因为它可以远距离攻击。
archer，射手[天]人马星座。
而箭术最佳者自然就成为统治者，所以词根“arch”表示“为首的；最重
要的；首领”意思；这里“arch”原为“arc”。由于英语受到法语的影响+h
或h脱落其含义不变，主要是因为法语中h不送气也就是不发音；例如hard可
以转变成arduous 依然表示努力的意思。
monarch 君主，anarchy 无政府状态，anarchist无政府主义者等都是来
源于此词根含义。
大家可以通字母“C”形象的想到弓的形状，手臂上拿着弓（arm+arc）所
以arc表示弓型的、弧形的；同时游牧民族的屋顶也是弧形的，所以arc又有
了“屋顶”的含意。
从arch“首领，统治者”这个意义，我们又可以发现“archaic古代”的
含意，因为只有古代帝王和统治者才被记入历史史册，真正创造历史的人民群
众却淹没于历史的洪流之中，所以archive表示“档案”，考查历史就成了“考
古学”archaeology.

君主享有对罪犯的赦免权。

anarchy n. 无政府状态

archaic adj. 古老的，古代的，陈旧的
例：an archaic bronze statuette. 一种相当古老的青铜小雕像。

例：old land deeds in the municipal archives 市政档案馆中的旧土地
契约。
archaeology n. 考古学
例：Geology here passes over the continuation of the history of man
to archaeology.
地质学在此把人类历史的延续移交给考古学。
