About Duolingo English Test (DET)

The Duolingo English Test is an English proficiency test that many institutions in the United

States and Canada use to determine foreign candidates’ qualification for admission.

This exam is comparable to other English language proficiency tests like TOEFL and IELTS.

Duolingo English Test Sections

1. Quick Setup

At the start of the test, each applicant has 5 minutes to complete the introductory tasks.

2. Adaptive Questions

Candidates win have 45 minutes to attempt the questions displayed on the screen while

3. Video Interview & Writing Sample

The Duolingo English Test prompts candidates to answer one of two questions chosen at

random from a pool of hundreds of questions in the last 10 minutes of the Duolingo English Test.

In the following 10 minutes, candidates will have 30 seconds to select between the two

options.

The Duolingo English test will give the video-speaking sample 1-3 minutes, while the

writing sample is 3-5 minutes.

Scoring Guide for the Duolingo English Test

Candidates will not be put at a disadvantage for providing wrong or partially correct

responses. Partially accurate answers may even earn candidates half credit.

Candidates who miss a question, on the other hand, may lose a higher percentage of their

A 26-vear-old woman nicknamed Weiheng, from Guangzhou, and Tang Yuhan, a 27-year-old

man in Anhui province, are both participants in the online thread, with their stories obtaining

thousands of likes so far.

The two are both musicians in their spare time, even though they are thousands of miles apart

and have different jobs in media and finance. Weiheng is now a lead singer in a band after work,

while Tang plays the guitar in a death metal group.

Their passion for music has grown since college and they didn’t abandon their enthusiasm,

even after entering the workplace. Though they both faced doubts and worries from their family

and colleagues at first, they stuck to their beliefs and won the respect and understanding of others.

The two music enthusiasts make use of their nighttime to rehearse and then perform on

holidays and weekends. Weiheng’s band, Flouting Soul, has released eight songs and signed a

contract with a music agency, ready to launch albums and get down to a concert tour.

The African penguin is expected to go extinct in the wild in just over a decade, given its

current population decline. The main reason is a lack of food caused by disturbance to ocean

conditions from global heating and competition from the commercial fishing industry. According

to a study, scientists have identified a possible additional cause, one that is an entirely new threat

Researchers used data from ship identification tools to estimate underwater noise from

of the penguins. Recording the noise will tell researchers what the penguins are hearing, if they’re

talking while hunting, if they’re changing their movements in response to noise, and if the noise is

drowning out their hunting conversations. This will allow researchers to determine whether the

sound disturbance is a direct cause of the penguins’ ongoing difficulties in finding sufficient food.

The study is the first to explore he effects of ocean traffic noise pollution on seabirds and the

consequences of offshore shipping activities on underwater noise levels. Experts are considering

proposing various global best-practice approaches to reduce some of the impacts of noise

pollution, such as policies that limit the number and size of ships allowed into a bay of this kind.

“We also need more scientific monitoring of noise, before these measures are put in place and

University of Hong Kong and Carnegie Mellon University in the US have developed small robots

that can quickly change back and forth from liquid to solid states.

According to the website Mashable. the scientists were inspired by sea cucumbers. They are

able to change the stiffness (

the gallium material to provide heat. This heat then allowed the robots to change between solid

As the website Tech Xplore pointed out, other similar materials require external heat sources

such as heat guns and electrical currents to induce a change of states; but now, the robots can use a

heat source inside itself to change states independently. During the robots” experimental trials. the

scientists conducted a number of tests. These tests included having the robots melt into liquid and

re-form to escape a prison-like cage. It can remove a foreign object from and deliver medicinal

drugs to a model stomach. The robot is also able to build and repair hard-to-reach circuits. The

robots’ ability to switch between states of matter allows for a number of possible uses and

advancements in different fields, such as the biomedical and circuit assembly (

these are all just “proofs of concept” which show the abilities of these new kind of robots.
