Epoxyorepoxideresinsareagroupofreactivecompoundsthatarecharacterizedbythe

Althoughworkonepoxyresinsstartedinthemid-1920s,thefirstcommercially

erebasedonthediglycidyl

etherofbisphenolA(usuallyreferredtoasDGEBAresins),andtodaytheseresins,ina

rangeofmolecularweights,rast,

however,hardenerscomeinavarietyofshapesandsizes,includingaminesandamides,

mercaptans,anhydrides,ofhardenerdependsonthe

applicationrequirements,andthewiderangeofhardenersavailableincreasestheversa-

tilityofadhesivesbasedonepoxyresins.

TRYOFEPOXYRESINS

Epichlorhydriniscapableofreactingwithhydroxylgroups,withtheeliminationofhydro-

twidelyusedepoxyresinsarethefamilyofproductsproducedbythe

reactionbetweenepichlorhydrinandbisphenolA.

Thisreactswithadditionalepichlorhydrintoproduceamoleculeofgeneralstructure

Commerciallyusefulgradesarerelativelylow-molecular-weightproductsinwhichn

sbetween0and1,theproductisaliquid,andthis

reases,theproductmoves

radesfilessof

molecularweight,ofgreater

functionalitycanbeproducedfrompolyolshavingmorethantwohydroxylgroupsper

enolnovolacresins,havingthegeneralstructurecanbereactedwith

epichlorhydrintoproduceepoxynovolacresins.
