摘要:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the lower flying characteristic and friction
of a head and the higher recording capacity thereof by irradiating the specific range of
the surface waist of a nonmagnetic brittle substrate with pulse laser beams of a
prescribed wavelength. SOLUTION: The plural points of the front surface of the
substrate 1 for a magnetic recording medium consisting of the flat nonmagnetic brittle
material, such as glass, are irradiated the pulse laser beams of the wavelength absorbed
in the nonmagnetic brittle material in the range of a waist diameter Dμm. Laser marks 3
having a height H of 10 to 500Å in the projecting parts are, therefore, formed at the
plural points. At this time, the waist diameter D to be irradiated is specified to 0.5μJ <6μJ
when the energy with which the evaporation of the substrate 1 is initiated by the pulses
of the laser beams is defined as EvμJ. Magnetic layers 2 are formed on such laser marks 3.
Shape changing parts 30 of the same shape as the shape of the laser marks 3 are formed
on the extreme surface of the magnetic recording medium. As a result, the low flying
characteristic and low friction force of the head are ensured and further, the recording
capacity is improved.
