The difference between art and design

As is known to all,the diiference between art and design is a focus which people always

discuss. Today I want to tell it in my own opinions and share the distinction between art and

design with you.

Firstly, the purpose of them is quite different from each other: Great design products

express information in a direct way. According to John O’ Nolan, “The purpose is almost

always to motivate the audience to do something: buy a product, use a service, visit a loca-

tion, learn certain information.”(O’ Nolan,2009). Designers not only create new things but

also attract people by them creation. Good design products always make people want to

purchase them, even though they are very expensive.

For example, one of the most famous France brands called Christian Louboutin is popu-

lar with many celebrities for its red and white heels. He used to design many kinds of shoes

or bags and this brand has launched a series of lipsticks this year, Which are seemed like

some heels. The lipsticks are based on black and red color making their appearance looks

mysterious. Designers often attract purchasers because of the gorgeous appearance of their

products, so they often make their own design more beautiful and more practical. Also, the

valuable design products always motivate people’s desire as well. Above all, design is di-

rect, while art is indirect. According to John O’Nolan, “They create the art to share that

feeling with others, to allow views to relate to it, learn from it or be inspired by

it.”(O’Nolan,2009).

He was born in Belgian, this painting was created in his old age in 1964s. after
